Central Utility Plant Upgrade Client:   Chowan Hospital Project: Chowan Hospital's main projects objectives were to: replace its aging equipment and by doing so provide increased equipment redundancy and to create a central chilled water plant by interconnecting its existing, and unconnected loads. The East Group's team provided Chowan the following services: 1) installation of (3) 175 ton water-cooled screw chillers and associated cooling towers and pumps. 2) installation of (3) 60 bhp firetube boilers, spray deaerator with triplex feedwater pumps and surge tank with duplex transfer pumps. 3) design for a 1,000 square foot addition to existing utility plant building. 4) establish new electrical service and distribution system for building addition. 5) develop interconnections for all chilled water loads to have a true “central plant” to achieve increased redundancy objective. 6) selected equipment quantities and capacities (both boilers and chillers) to provide N+1 redundancy Project anticipated completion date is April 2008; total construction cost of $2.3M.
