Lenoir Memorial Hospital MRI Renovation Client:   Lenoir Memorial Hospital Project: Lenoir Memorial Hospital (LMH) is focused on continually improving how it delivers patient care to ensure greater patient comfort and well-being during treatment. The recent renovation of its Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) room is a prime example of this focus. The East Group shares LMH's 'patient-centered' commitment which was evident in its renovation plans for the MRI room. LMH needed to renovate its existing Magnet Room to accommodate an investment in new MRI equipment, i.e., Siemen's MAGNETOM® Avanto, an advanced MRI system with the ability to deliver a larger array of clinical MRI procedures. The East Group provided LMH with architectural and engineering services. Design services included: space layout, selection of interiors and finishes, development of phasing plans to minimize equipment downtime, and coordination with shielding designer and 3-d modeling using Sketchup to convey design intent. Engineering services included medical gas, HVAC and electric design. The East Group also delivered construction administration services to LMH; conducted user group meetings with the Owner; coordinated with all equipment vendors; and, planned and designed temporary MRI services and utilities to ensure continuity of patient care during renovation. As a result LMH, with The East Group's designs, created a more positive and less claustrophobic patient MRI experience. The benefits of several key design elements included: specialized, scenic ceiling panel lights, which are visible during treatment, to help alleviate anxiety and promote the patient experience, workflow design to ensure more efficient treatment delivery and acoustical improvements to reduce machine noise.
